First of all, I just want to let y’all know that this review contains my own honest opinions, and @ Live_Beverage (also known as Live Kombucha) did not compensate me, in any way, for this review! They don’t even know I exist, except that they DID like my Instagram picture earlier today! 🙂 I did tag them in the picture, so that’s probably why, lol! 😉
Have you ever tried Kombucha? If not, I highly suggest that you try @Live_Beverage’s Kombucha (also known as Live Kombucha)! I went to my local health food store today, and I picked up a few bottles of another brand. When I went to check out with the cashier, she mentioned that she loves Live Kombucha’s Pure Doctor because it tastes just like Dr. Pepper. I said “Where is this located in the store?” because I didn’t see it at first. She says “It’s in the cooler to the left”. I ran back to the coolers and grabbed the LAST ONE! When I got home, I popped it open and, lo and behold, it DOES taste similar to Dr. Pepper. It’s not as strong of a flavor as Dr. Pepper, but it’s definitely a GREAT AND HEALTHY substitution for Dr. Pepper! Next flavor to try: Culture Cola because I am a Coca Cola addict! Wouldn’t it be AWESOME if Culture Cola tastes close to Coca Cola? OMG! Can you say “HEALTHY COLA”? I sure can! So excited! I’m going to pick one up on Monday, LOL.
What is Kombucha?
Wait a minute! What is Kombucha, you ask? Well, the very short version is that it’s fermented tea! Basically, it’s made by brewing tea (I hear black tea is very popular), and you add pure cane sugar to the tea. Once it cools, you put it into a big glass container, slap a Scoby on top of it (google it, lol), and then you secure the opening, of the container, with a coffee filter. You want your tea to breathe, during the fermentation process, but you DO NOT want bugs getting into your brew. After about two weeks, of your brew sitting, undisturbed in a cool, dark location, it’s “taste test” time! I have never brewed Kombucha (because I’m scared of the Scoby!), so I can’t tell you what it’s supposed to taste like, after a few weeks. Then, there’s a time period, after the initial fermenting period, where people add fruit juices, or whatever flavors they’d like to add to their Kombucha, and then bottle their brew. It then goes through a second fermentation period, and this is when the natural carbonation happens! There’s also several “taste tests” during the second fermentation, so that the person knows when their preferred level of carbonation and taste has been achieved. Again, my description of this process is VERY macro level, so I highly suggest that you google how to brew Kombucha, if you’re interested. I, personally, prefer to purchase my Kombucha because I’m scared of the Scoby as well as my containers exploding during the second fermentation period! 🙂
So, back to @Live_Beverage’s Kombucha! Like I mentioned earlier, I usually purchase a different brand, but I am now leaning more towards Live_Beverage’s brand because there is an extremely minute amount of sediment (if that’s what it’s called… I know it’s “good” bacteria and yeast!) at the bottom of their containers! This is GREAT because I have an issue with the other brand’s sediment getting too close to my mouth, LOL. Live Kombucha comes in 12-ounce glass bottles, but they may offer other sizes. It is also Vegan, Non-GMO, and Organic!
